Stevie Wonder files for Divorce with Kai Morris
Award winning singer Stevie Wonder has filed in court documents to end his 11 year old union with fashion designer Kai Millard Morris. Singer Wonder made the announcement himself on Friday.
In truth the news of the divorce is no surprise as the couple had been separated for about 2 years now. They got married in 2001 and the union yielded two children- 10 year old Kailand and his 7 year old brother Mandla.
Concerning the kids however Wonder has agreed to share custody of the boys as well as pay child support. He also agreed to offer spousal support.
Wonder’s 11 year old marriage to Morris is his second union. He was briefly married to Syreeta Wright in 1970 but that ended 2 years later.
Stevie Wonder’s choice of attorney for the divorce proceedings is none other than Laura Wasser, who in the past has handled the divorce proceedings for uch celebrities as Maria Shriver, Kim Kardashian and the former Ms. Kobe Bryant all of which happened in 2011.
Court documents reveal that Wonder cited irreconcilable differences and authorized the divorce papers by stamping his two fingerprints.
For Morris, despite a promising career in fashion designing, that designed a collection for America’s First Lady Michelle Obama in 2009, some financial setbacks brought down her company- The Kai Milla Design in 2010.
For Wonder however, over the course of his legendary fifty-year career, he has earned award accolades as well as a fortune in royalties from classics like “For Once In My Life,” “I Was Made To Love Her,” “Isn’t She Lovely” and “I Just Called To Say I Love You” that he has penned and performed.
Although it is unclear if the former couple had a prenuptial agreement, Morris stands to gain the benefits from his musical career over the past decade, including: his 2005 album A Time to Love, three best-of hits LPs, concerts included the Philadelphia Live 8 in 2005, proceeds from his 2010 “Bridge Over Troubled Water” cover for the Hope for Haiti Now compilation aiding victims of the earthquake in Port-au-Prince.
