Adebayor completes move to Spurs

Tottenham Spurs have finally completed the signing of Emmanuel Adebayor
from Premier league champions Manchester City according to the websites
of the two clubs.

The transfer had dragged almost all summer with likelihood of and a
cancelation of the deal was rumoured but both sides have finally agreed an
acceptable price including the player’s wages which was believed to be the
bone of contention.

Another source says the prolonged transfer was more the result of a dispute
between the player and the Barclays Premier League champions over a
loyalty bonus pay-off.

But Tuesday afternoon the striker himself tweeted: “I’m back!!!! Tottenham
here I come!! I’m hungry for goals…Get ready.”

With a reported £175,000 a week for the former Arsenal man at City, it
was believed that Adebayor was reluctant to take a big pay cut and Spurs
refused to break their wage structure.

Emmanuel Adebayor who moved from Arsenal to Manchester city spent
three years at City but fell out of favour with manager Robert Mancini and
spent the last year and a half on loan at Real Madrid and Spurs.

Adebayor revealed his joy at completing the move on the Spurs website; “I
am pleased to be signing for Spurs on a permanent basis after finally
agreeing my departure with Manchester City.

“It may have taken longer than expected but I am delighted to be back at
Tottenham Hotspur. I really enjoyed my time here last season and I am
hoping we can achieve great things together again”

“We are delighted to announce that we have completed the transfer of
Emmanuel Adebayor from Manchester City. More to come soon!” Tottenham
announced on their official Twitter account.

The striker got 18 goals in 37 appearances for North London club last
season, and new boss Andre Villas-Boas was keen to add Adebayor to his
side, with Jermain Defoe the only recognised senior striker in the squad
when he took charge.

Adebayor was signed by Arsene Wenger from Monaco but was sold to
Manchester City for a reported £25m and has now been sold to Spurs for
£5m.
