Klitschko wary of Thompson’s threat
Contrary to what the bookies think, Wladimir Klitschko believes his match with Tony Thompson would not be as easy as is anticipated by all.
Ahead of their Jul 7th fight, Klitschko believes he must be on his toes against Thompson who he had beat in Hamburg in 2008 especially after Thompson says he hopes to crash the party.
“My job is to try to crash the party,” Thompson said. “I feel wonderful. I’m not beat up or anything.”
The thing with being favourite is, If he beats Thompson again, then its really no big deal but if he loses to the 40 year old, then it would be disaster. Even if Klitschko wins but does so unconvincingly, then he knows of course the press would be all out on him because he is the champion isn’t he?
No, he is not just the Champion but he has gone unbeaten for a whopping eight years and currently holds the WBO, WBA and IBF heavyweight titles; in truth he cannot afford to win.
Not only is this dominance of Wladimir Klitschko alone but his elder brother Vitali is also dominating in the rings. It appears no one is able to dethrone them at the moment and in view of this, they have begun revisiting previous opponents.
Thompson’s fight to Klitschko ended in the 11th round in 2008 and the 36-year-old would surely love a similar outcome when he goes head to head with the American. Thompson blamed a knee injury for the loss.
“It’s not going to be a vacation fight for me. We sat here four years ago and you said you were going to beat me, you told me that you were going to knock me out. You were very confident going into the fight but you lost and after you said you were injured. I don’t understand why you only said you had the injury after the fight.”
Would it be a rematch or is Thompson about to unseat the reigning Champion who has 16 straight wins? It all goes down Saturday July 7th in Berne, Switzerland.
