Vodafone has blisteringly attacked Ofcom, following its conclusion to let Everything
Everywhere, the competing mobile operator (which runs T-Mobile and Orange) to
release 4G services during this year.
Vodafone blamed the regulator of having a casual disregard towards the customers
and the economical health by letting the largest mobile operator in Britain, Everything
Everywhere to obtain a head start on its competitors.
Ofcom has just consented to relax the regulations on a part of the high quality spectrum
of Everything Everywhere. This spectrum has the airwaves that it utilized to transmit
mobile waves so that it can release 4G services during this year and let a speedier
internet access over mobile phones.
The operator will be permitted to “flip a switch” effectively on September 11th to form
a network, which will normally provide internet downloads ten times quicker than the
present 3G network. Gradually it can provide download speeds 3 times quicker than the
present fixed line broadband.
Most of the other mobile phone operators in Britain will not be able to introduce 4G
services till next year, after Ofcom has finished an auction of 4G spectrum, letting
Everything Everywhere to make use of its premium service to make a grab for the new
consumers. Vodafone officials said that they were shocked about Ofcom’s decision.
The regulator is supposed to have exhibited a careless disregard for the consumer
interest, wider economy, and business through its denial to correctly disregard the
spirited distortion by letting one operator to offer services even before laying the ground
for a completely competitive market.
The largest mobile operator in Britain has been conducting campaigns to be permitted
to release 4G services during this year on the base that it will do good to the economical
health and businesses. However, its competitors debate that a head start will infact
cause damage to economy in long term, by developing an uneven competing field.
Vodafone claimed that the conclusion to relax the regulations ruling the spectrum of
Everything Everywhere could pose a threat to the 4G spectrum auction.
The smallest mobile phone network in Britain, Three is conducting advanced
discussions with Everything Everywhere to purchase a part of this spectrum so that it
can be utilized for 4G services from September 11th.
If the deal works out, it looks like this small company will possess the required spectrum
for 4G services and challenge the regulations for 4G auction to attempt to secure even
more.
Vodafone said that the auction balance will basically change.
