My fight is bigger, Khan says

Boxer Amir Khan says his fight against Danny Garcia in Las Vegas on Saturday is a bigger match than the David Haye and Dereck Chisora’s heavyweight clash with in London billed for the same night.

Khan and Garcia go head to head in Las Vegas on Saturday 14th July after weeks and weeks of taunts, mind games and counter taunts however in London, what should be the most anticipated fight between Haye and Chisora who were each beaten by the Klitschko brothers also takes place same night.

A crowd of more than 28,000 is anticipated at the Haye-Chisora fight but Khan has played down its significance.

“Boxing fans know my fight is bigger. There’s a world title on the line,” he said. “David is a friend of mine but the fight is not a big fight,” he said. “There are no titles on the line and I don’t think Chisora is in the top 10 in the world. “I’m in the capital of boxing in Las Vegas. It makes my fight a lot bigger. And the guy I’m fighting Danny Garcia is in the top 10 in the world.”

Khan lost both his WBA and IBF light-welterweight titles to Lamont Peterson in December. A rematch was subsequently cancelled in May after Peterson failed a drugs test and an alternative world title fight with Garcia was scheduled soon after.

Khan knows he must be on his toes against Garcia who is trained by his daddy. He enlisted the services of strength and conditioning Coach Ruben Tabares, who has introduced some unusual practices into Khan’s preparations.

“He’s made me change to a non-fluoride toothpaste because apparently fluoride is really dangerous, contains rat poison or something and can even kill you,” Khan explained. I’m one of those guys who listens to what my trainers tell me - even if it sounds a little bit strange sometimes - and I do it anyway.”

David Haye and Dereck Chisora made headlines when they had a brawl at a post match press conference after Chisora lost on points to Vitali Klitschko. They chose to settle it in the ring despite not holding a British boxing License. The Luxembourg boxing authorities thus sanctioned the fight.
