London 2012 Olympics; the medals won so far
As the London Olympics enters its Day 5 (Day 7 of events) China remains a top of the medals hurl with 17 medals to their knitting so far. They are closely followed by the Americans who have same number of medals albeit with fewer gold medals.
In all 120 medals have been won so far with 26 Olympic records broken. The youngest Gold winner is 15 year old Lithuania swimmer Ruta Mettutyte while Alexandr Vinokurov is the oldest gold winner in the events so far with the 38 year old winning gold in the road cycling event.
The ranking on the medals table depends on the amount of gold medal a country has, then silver before bronze. This explains why a country like Kazakhstan is 8th on the medals table with a total of 2 gold medals, no silver and no bronze while Japan is 9th with 1 gold, 4 silver and 6 bronze with a medals hurl of 11 so far.
China leads the log with 9 gold, 5 Silver and 3 Bronze medals. The United States of America is second with 5 gold, 7 Silver and 5 Bronze. France follows in third with 3 gold medals, 1 Silver and 3 bronze. North Korea is fourth on the log with 3 gold, No Silver and 1 Bronze. Italy is next with 2 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze. South Korea have 2 medals each of gold, silver and bronze.
Russian Federation is seventh with 2 gold, 0 silver and 3 bronze. They are followed by Kazakhstan in eight and Japan in ninth place. 10th placed Australia has 1 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze. Romania is next with 1 gold, 2 Silver and no bronze. Hungary and Brazil share 12th place with 1 medal each of gold, silver and bronze. The Dutch contingent has won just 2 medals of 1 gold and 1 Silver and follows closely behind Brazil.
Ukraine is 15th placed with 1 gold and 2 bronze medals while Lithuania has 1 gold medal only as well as Georgia and South Africa. Columbia has won just 2 silver medals are in 19th place on the medals table. Hosts Great Britain & N. Ireland are 20th with last night’s Bronze in gymnastics making their total medals tally 1 Silver and 2 bronze. Cuba and Poland have won just 1 Silver each and are in 21st place.
