Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) Divulge 2015 version of F-150 pickup truck - “Atlas”
Northern, WI 1/17/2013 (avauncer) - The concept version of “Atlas” Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F)’s F-150 truck has been unveiled. This pickup truck set for a 2015 launch has a bolder design and a lighter frame. It will be powered by an EcoBoost Engine to provide better mileage, in addition to that , the F-150 comes with active grill shutters in the front and the wheels to make the design more aerodynamic. Another important design update is the reduction in the weight boost the mileage of the vehicle. This is a measure to keep up with the strict federal laws governing fuel economy and also to up the sales figures. CEO, Mark Fields has confirmed the weight reduction strategies at the Detroit auto show on Tuesday. Global Product Development head revealed that high strength steel, aluminum, carbon fiber and other lightweight material are being explored to achieve this reduction.
Competitors General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) unveiled a new model of pickup trucks last month. This launch is critical to boost the automakers sales post the 2009 bankruptcy. According to analysts, the truck sales segment will see a rebound in the coming year. The pickup truck market is set to become more competitive as truck buyers are looking for replacements. More than 50% of the current trucks on US roads are over 10 years old.

With the current plan to remove between 250 and 750 pounds from the new models, the design process will undergo a tremendous facelift.
