Establishment of a transparent accounting and information system is a major concern- GM
Northern, WI 1/26/2013 (avauncer) - General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) is in the middle of finalizing a global reorganization of its corporate structure and CEO Dan Akerson is faced with the challenge to lay out a plan to tackle the company’s internal structure in the emerging markets like Brazil.
The shift of Grace Lieblein, the country GM for Brazil to the role of the global purchasing head is being put off by the company till Akerson decides how to knit accountability and flexibility in global operations. Whether one person should oversee the overall functions of the company or just the Chevrolet wing, is his biggest concern.
For now, South-America GM, Jamie Ardilla, is overseeing the Brazil operations until the final decision on Lieblein’s role comes out. Carlos Zarlenga has already been assigned the role of CFO for Brazil market besides his regular job as CFO of South American segment.
In an attempt to come at par with competing Toyota Motors Corp., and Volkswagen(AG) (VOW) the General Motors Company (NYSE:GM)has launched some seven new models in the Brazilian market. The revenue from this geographic segment was more than 60% of the total revenues from South America.
Akerson, succeeded Ed Whitacre in the CEO office just before the automotive company offered its first float to the general public in November 2010. Since then he has been working to focus the governance control and management efforts around the global brands and operations.
In October last year, Akerson created a new placement in the global hierarchy; the global head of Cadillac (brand). Bob Ferguson who is one of the top campaigner for General Motors Company (NYSE:GM), was hired internally, for the role.
Aside from the regular international operations, other roles having global duties include Lieblein’s role as a global purchasing head; Mary Barra’s role of global product-development head and global manufacturing-operations headed by Tim Lee..
Despite the fact that Akerson is considering to implement a global structure for the Chevrolet brand just as he did for the Cadillac position, he did express in October that he felt no “immediacy” to do the same for this brand.
As CEO General Motors Company (NYSE:GM), Akerson’s major concern is to ensure the establishment of a transparent accounting and information system which not only drives change but also fosters growth. In the past, he has expressed distrust in the change resistant culture of the company.
The shares of General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) were up by 1.01% to $29.07.
