2015 Smart For-Two Spied
Boston, 09/01/2012 (Avauncer.com) - Many spy images of a prototype of the latest Smart For-Two small car have been widely spread across various automotive websites on the Internet, but now we’ve finally seen the first spy shots of the actual next gen Smart For-Two vehicle.
New Smart For-Two Will be Different from Renault Twingo
The next gen tiny car is more likely to be unveiled sometime during the fall of 2013 model year ahead of its arrival in all the showrooms of the company during 2013 as brand new 2015 model. Since, it is just a prototype model, it doesn’t really look like a Smart car only, and it seems to be bearing a temporary Renault Twingo exterior body, which is a fresh platform that is being produced jointly by design engineers from Renault and Smart.
It is believed that will make use of the new platform in the design procedures of both the new For-Two and For-Four cars, while Renault Motors will utilize the new design platform for its upcoming next gen Twingo. Although, all these models will be developed based on the same design platform, they are expected to look completely different from each other, particularly in terms of the overall product design and body styling cues.
Rear Mounted Engine and RWD to Reign in 2015 as well
However, one basic trait of the new design platform will remain same on all the models, which is its distinctive rear mounted engine, and standard RWD (Rear-Wheel Drive) system concept that are utilized by present Smart cars. It has been reported that the present For-Two line of standard gasoline, diesel (only in case of foreign markets), and electric engines will be provided with the new gen model; however with considerable upgrades so as to make them even more fuel efficient.
The present gen For-Two car, which has the potential to achieve a fuel mileage of 34 miles per gallon in the city areas, and 38 miles per gallon on expressways, has clearly failed to match many newcomers such as the Chevy Spark and Scion iQ, since they offer almost the same fuel mileage ratings, but generously spacious interior cabin too.
On the styling front, the company’s 2011 Forvision concept model leads the way. The consumers can expect very attractive body styling and extensive use of lightweight constituents in the fabrication of the upcoming 2015 model including body panels made of plastic.
The release dates of the jointly produced small cars are premeditated for 2013 onwards, which indicates that the consumers are more likely to get a glimpse of the latest Twingo first, followed by the next gen For-Two, and finally the new For-Four.
