USA tourist beaten for giving Hitler salute in Dresden, Germany

Nazi Salutes Land Chinese Tourists in Hot Water in Germany

A drunken tourist from the United States was beaten up by a passer-by in Dresden, eastern Germany, the local media said Sunday.

An American tourist was punched after drunkenly giving the Nazi salute several times on the streets of Dresden, Germany, over the weekend.

The 41-year-old, who is not yet identified (internet sleuths get on it!), suffered minor injuries in the 8:15 a.m. Saturday assault, according to police.

According to police records, the American tourist was extremely intoxicated, as indicated by a high blood alcohol level.

The police have launched a procedure for the use of "symbols of unconstitutional organizations" by the tourist.

Gold soars as the United States and North Korea wage a verbal war
An index of 15 gold miners tracked by Bloomberg Intelligence climbed 1.1 per cent, led by Toronto-based Yamana Gold Inc. The dollar index, which measures the USA currency against a basket of other major currencies, fell 0.14 percent.

It's the second time this month that tourists have gotten themselves into legal trouble for giving the Nazi salute.

Public displays of Nazi symbols like the swastika or gestures like the "Heil Hitler" salute have been banned in Germany since the end of World War II.

On August 5 two Chinese voyagers were discovered taking photographs of themselves making the motion before Berlin's Reichstag building.

The man could face up to three years in prison as punishment in Germany for expressing Nazi symbols, although courts typically settle on fines for a first offense.
