Tropical Depression Eight forms in Atlantic

Tropical Depression 8

Tropical Depression Eight formed late Saturday night in the Atlantic Ocean, northeast of the Bahamas.

The depression is expected to develop into a tropical storm on Sunday.

The disturbance is forecast to move northwestward through the weekend and to turn northeastward - away from the USA coast - early next week.

Tropical Depression is about 525 miles southwest of Bermuda and has sustained winds of 35 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center. Gert is the next name on the 2017 list of hurricane names.

While its intensity will likely peak as a strong tropical storm, it's possible this storm will become a hurricane early this week. If wind speed grows to 39 miles per hour, the National Hurricane Center it would become Tropical Storm Gert.

London 2017: Usain Bolt ends incredible career by collapsing in final race
I think it got the better of us. "The young runners in our team - it is just about executing and coming through the race for them", he said.

However, a turn to the north and eventually northeast is forecast to begin tonight, which should steer the storm away from the U.S.

At the moment, it appears this alleyway will set up far enough east that the US would avoid any direct impacts, but increased surf along the East Coast is possible.

Forecasters are also watching a tropical wave that has moved off the west coast of Africa.

The Atlantic hurricane season runs through November 30.
