Pearson surges into 100m hurdles semis

Sally Pearson can now stake a claim to being Australia's greatest modern track and field athlete

The 30-year-old - the 2011 world champion - missed both the 2015 world championships and 2016 Olympics because of serious injuries, losing out on the former after suffering a "bone explosion" in her wrist in a bad fall at a meet.

A birds-eye view of Sally Pearson crossing the line in London.

"I've worked so hard, I don't know what has just happened out there".

"I was so exhausted".

World record holder Kendra Harrison disappointed in finishing only fourth confirming that her Achilles heel is a lack of championship experience having failed to make the Olympic team a year ago.

She suffered a shattered wrist and had a series of serious calf and Achilles problems as well as hamstring issues that denied her the chance to compete in Rio or the Beijing world championships or her medal haul have could been even greater. Doctors described the injury as a "bone explosion".

"It's been a long journey back from injury, but to get this moment and go and celebrate in front of my family is unreal".

"My husband (school sweetheart Kieran) is in the crowd there somewhere, I'll try and find him and give him a hug soon".

Athletics - World Athletics Championships - Women's 100 Metres Hurdles Final - London Stadium, London, Britain - August 12, 2017.

It was as the athletics program began in Brazil previous year that Pearson chose to coach herself which proved to be a masterstroke.

Hilliard said he always felt world record-holder Kendra Harrison would be vulnerable in the heat of a championship final, especially once she had stumbled in the semi-final. I don't know what to say, that was just incredible.

India drop Yuvraj for limited-overs games in Sri Lanka
The team also includes young spinners - Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal with Axar Patel to support them. Yuvraj has scored over 8000 runs in 304 ODIs, apart from playing 40 Tests and 58 T20 Internationals.

"I love this stadium, I love the people and I'm so happy to have been back here doing the same thing again (winning gold)".

Dutkiewicz said: "I can not believe it, I dreamed about this".

"She is the first person to do that", he said of her comeback victory.

For the first time, a good case can be made that the 30-year-old Pearson is Australia's greatest track and field athlete of the modern era.

Since former champion Dawn Harper Nelson (season best 12.63) won the heat, the Americans have four in the final and could sweep the medals again - like they did past year at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

Germany's Pamela Dutkiewicz claimed the bronze in 12.72 and Harrison trailed home in fourth place.

Former men's 110m hurdles world record holder Colin Jackson described the Australian's technique as "absolutely flawless" and that, combined with her famed winning mentality and now a body again able to match her mind, took her over the line.

"I don't know if it was surprise or what, but the emotion just escaped my body because I was so excited and so happy to have achieved what I have worked so hard for", Pearson said. "There were so many big names in the field and since I was a girl I have been admiring Sally Pearson".

"They had more belief than me coming into tonight".

It was a third major 100m hurdles title for Pearson, who had previously won gold at the 2011 world championships in Daegu and the 2012 London Olympics.
