Bobby Vanderhall, 34, was arrested on three charges of murder in the early morning deaths of his mother, Lynn Reichenbach-Vanderhall; his sister, Melissa Vanderhall; and Janel Simpson, who was visiting the home.

Nassau police investigate a triple homicide on Perry Street in Hempstead on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017.

Police said Bobby Vanderhall was enraged when he found the door was locked before he went into the garage, grabbed a hammer, and then entered the home via the basement. Bobby Vanderhall stayed in the house for a short time before fleeing, and was apprehended within a two-mile radius of the scene sleeping in a auto, said Nassau County Det.

Fitzpatrick said Vanderhall had a history of "emotional issues" and had on two occasions been taken from his mother's home to a medical centre. His mother had recently filed for an order of protection against him. Another family friend fought off the suspect in the midst of the chaos and ran into the street to beg for help.

"She's in the hospital right now", a relative of Murray said. He obtained a large hammer.

"She was covered in blood", said Sykes, who called 911.

Denis Simpson said his daughter, Janel (pictured, March 2016), had worked late as a secretary at Northwell Health and then went to her friend's house to hang out.

He had been arrested previously, including for DWI and sexual abuse, Fitzpatrick said.

Vanderhall walked upstairs and bludgeoned his mother to death in the living room. "These girls don't give problems, these girls just have fun", Simpson said. He has been charged with one count of attempted murder and three counts of second-degree murder and will be arraigned Sunday. He is scheduled for arraignment on Sunday and is now being kept in Mineola in Nassau County.
