India drop Yuvraj for limited-overs games in Sri Lanka

India's Shikhar Dhawan left and Lokesh Rahul cheer each other during the first day's play of their third cricket test match against Sri Lanka in Pallekele Sri Lanka Saturday Aug. 12 2017

Ever since his 32-ball 53 against Pakistan in the Champions Trophy, Yuvraj has gone six innings without a half-century, and managed only 57 runs in his three most recent innings in the West Indies.

In the last week alone, the likes of Kedar Jadhav, Yuvraj Singh and Jasprit Bumrah have all had their fitness assessed at the facility.

Yuvraj has scored over 8000 runs in 304 ODIs, apart from playing 40 Tests and 58 T20 Internationals.

Mumbai batsman Rohit Sharma has been surprisingly named the vice-captain, while opening batsman Lokesh Rahul returned after an injury lay-off.

Following a string of low scores, Yuvraj Singh was on Sunday dropped from the India squad for the upcoming five-match one-day worldwide series and one-off T20I against Sri Lanka, starting August 20.

The team also includes young spinners - Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal with Axar Patel to support them.

Tony Pulis: 'Up to five signings imminent'
The demands of the Premier League make it hard to blood academy talent and Pulis accepts the priority is to maintain the club's top-flight status.

The Virat Kohli-led squad features Manish Pandey and Axar Patel, who are returning to the Indian ODI side after a year's gap, whereas Yuzvendra Chahal has also been recalled to the squad.

Rahul was also an automatic choice once he is fit.

As far as Shardul's selection, he is among the reserve pool of fast bowlers whom selectors would ideally like to try out against a weak team like Sri Lanka.

Suresh Raina too has been overlooked by the selectors.
