North Korea had responded to Mr Trump's previous promise to unleash "fire and fury", with a threat to land a missile near the US Pacific territory of Guam.

Basically if the streak of trading days without a 1%+ up or down day is going to be broken, it's better for it to break with a 1%+ down day than a 1%+ up day.

The dollar was further weighed down on Friday by the soft United States inflation data. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note slipped to 2.21 percent from 2.25 percent late Wednesday.
