Bucs dump Roberto Aguayo a year after trading up for kicker

Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end O.J. Howard participates in practice during training camp at One Buccaneer Place in Tampa Fla. on Friday Aug. 4 2017

Unafraid to admit their mistake, the Bucs have released beleaguered place-kicker Roberto Aguayo just a little over a year after taking him in the second round. Aguayo's one shining moment came in Week 11 against Kansas City Chiefs (ironically the team the Bucs traded with to draft Aguayo), where he hit all four of his field goal attempts in 19-17 victory. Aguayo pinged the extra point attempt off the uprights - he called the miss "unlucky" after the game - and missed the field goal attempt wide right.

In a preseason game on Friday, Aguayo missed an extra-point attempt in the second quarter and a crucial fourth-quarter field goal attempt. The No. 59 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft hit 32 of his 34 extra point attempts a year ago, the worst percentage among kickers.

Aguayo's struggles prompted the team to sign veteran Nick Folk, who was released by the New York Jets this offseason. I hit it good. His 71% accuracy on field goals was the lowest in the NFL.

TELUS Corporation (TU) Earning Favorable Press Coverage, Analysis Shows
Zacks Investment Research raised TELUS Corporation from a "sell" rating to a "hold" rating in a report on Tuesday, April 18th. As of the end of the quarter Public Sector Pension Investment Board had acquired 227,400 shares growing its position 24.0%.

There are still three weeks to go, but here's my preseason bold prediction: Hard Knocks comes to a climactic finish with head coach Dirk Koetter calling Aguayo into his office to tell him he's lost the battle with Folk, and his job. It was starting down the line and it just kept fading. I had a field goal in there but at the end of the day, it wasn't what I wanted. I want to change that. I did some good things. He will get another opportunity to kick in the National Football League at some point.

"But it's natural instinct to think, 'I want to get better.' And I'm not saying he's doing that - I don't know".
