YouTube lays out plan to fight extremist content on its platform

In a blog post that also appeared as a Financial Times op-ed, Google's General Counsel Kent Walker wrote that the tech giant is taking a multipronged approach to tackling terrorist content. In a statement, Google said such content "poses a serious challenge and more immediate action needs to be taken".

Recognising that technology is "not a silver bullet", YouTube is also nearly doubling the size of its Trusted Flagger programme, a group of experts with special privileges to review flagged content that violates the site's community guidelines. Creators of such videos won't be able to monetize them, and the videos won't have comments and endorsements enabled. The company also said it will use artificial intelligence in combination with its ramped up employee efforts in order to make its strategy more effective.

"We think this strikes the right balance between free expression and access to information without promoting extremely offensive viewpoints", he said.

The company outlined four new steps it's taking to remove extremist and terrorism-related videos.

Following a wave of terrorist attacks in the United Kingdom in recent months, Google's senior vice-president and general counsel, Kent Walker, used one of the leading publications in the country to outline a plan to combat the use by terrorists of Google's tools.

Also, the company says it will rely on even more humans. The changes come after the British government and several other big advertisters recently pulled their ads from YouTube because they appeared with videos containing extremist, homophobic, or racist content. It will further work with counter-extremist groups to help identify content used with the objective of radicalizing or recruiting extremists.

Mbappe must prove himself at Monaco, claims Trezeguet
Going by these numbers madrid have to be offering something 130-135 millions if they are to sign the French worldwide . Real Madrid, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in the 18-year-old.

To expand their counter-extremism efforts, Google will put out more targeted online advertisements to make viewers aware of the situation by redirecting them to anti-terrorism videos. The company hopes to achieve this by working with Jigsaw to implement the "Redirect Method" more broadly across Europe.

Google also plans to pay 50 charities to search for, and flag, terrorist content.

The new measures add to the multiple mechanisms and processes that Google already has in place to deal with inflammatory content and videos that violate its policies.

In a bid to fight terrorism, Google has upped efforts to tackle the problem online. "We must not let them", Walker said.

"Together, we can build lasting solutions that address the threats to our security and our freedoms", Google states. "We are committed to playing our part", Walker concluded.
