UK moves to ease tensions after van attack on London Muslims

Van rams worshippers leaving London mosque killing at least one

London Metropolitan Police declared that the attack was an act of terrorism eight minutes after a 48 year-old-man drove a van into a crowd of people outside a mosque, killing one and injuring ten. British media reports said that a crowd had gathered outside the mosque Sunday night to help an elderly worshiper who had collapsed; the man died after the attack, but it was unclear whether his death was due to the attack itself.

The driver of a van is in custody after he allegedly drove his vehicle into a group of people leaving the Finbury Park Mosque early Monday.

Witnesses said that man who died, a grandfather who lived on the nearby Six Acres estate but who has not yet been named, had just suffered a heart attack and was being resuscitated when the van struck.

Witnesses claimed to have heard a man shout "kill all Muslims" during the attack.

Prime Minister Theresa May confirmed the crash is being investigated as a terrorist attack and said her thoughts were with those who had been hurt in "this bad incident".

"All the victims were from the Muslim community and we will be deploying extra police patrols to reassure the public, especially those observing Ramadan".

Khan also called it "a deliberate attack on innocent Londoners, many of whom were finishing prayers during the holy month of Ramadan".

UK Prime Minister Theresa May has described an attack on a north London mosque attack as a "sickening" attempt to destroy liberties that unite Britain, such as freedom of worship.

Korea: US Nuke Envoy's N. Korea Visit was Purely Humanitarian
After a brief trial broadcast by North Korean state television, Warmbier was sentenced to 15 years in prison and hard labor. But efforts to persuade North Korea to release the men now held had not been successful until Warmbier's release Tuesday.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu says: "This is being treated as a terrorist incident and is being investigated by the Counter Terrorism Command".

May chaired an emergency response meeting Monday morning.

When the driver of the van jumped out of the vehicle and tried to run "I tackled him on the floor until the police came", Aidroos told the BBC. Several people were injured, police said Monday, adding that one person had been arrested.

Three Muslim extremists who carried out the attack were killed by police.

London mayor Sadiq Khan said that "while this appears to target a specific community, it was also an attack on shared values".

Britain's terrorist alert has been set at "severe" meaning an attack is highly likely.

On May 22, a suicide bomber killed 22 people at a concert by American pop singer Ariana Grande in Manchester in northern England. His attack killed five people.
