"Trump doesn't care about HIV/AIDS" | Six resign from Trump's HIV/AIDS council

Scott Schoettes and Lucy Bradley Springer left the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV AIDS along with four other people on Tuesday

Scott Schoettes, Lucy Bradley-Springer, Gina Brown, Ulysses Burley III, Michelle Ogle, and Grissel Granados all resigned after they felt that the president was imposing regressive policies in health care.

Six prominent members of an HIV/AIDS council resigned from their positions in protest of President Donald Trump's non-existent HIV policies. Its helps inform the National HIV/AIDS Strategy, which was last revised in 2015.

Schoettes goes on to criticize the Trump administration's continued plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and make cuts to Medicaid.

But any recommendations on the matters to the current administration would fall on deaf ears, the op-ed says. "However, we can not ignore the many signs that the Trump Administration does not take the on-going epidemic or the needs of people living with HIV seriously". For example, as a presidential candidate, Trump, unlike Hillary Clinton or Sen.

"I think HIV was never a priority for this White House".

Cardiff pitch gave 'home advantage' to Pakistan: Eoin Morgan
Azhar Ali (76) and Fakhar Zaman (57) dismissed England's attack to all parts of Sophia Gardens in an opening stand of 118. England collapsed to 211 all out, with no batsman making a fifty in an innings where they could not manage a single six.

He further noted that Trump took down the Office of National AIDS Policy website the day of his inauguration, no replacement has surfaced, and that most importantly, "President Trump has not appointed anyone to lead the White House Office of National AIDS Policy, a post that held a seat on the Domestic Policy Council under President Obama".

Schoettes shared his concern for people living with HIV and AIDS if changes to Medicaid are enacted by the American Health Care Act, saying it would be "devastating". Under the President Barack Obama, the council helped the administration craft a new national strategy, created to reduce infections, increase access to care, reduce health inequalities, and coordinate a national response.

Schoettes is not only counsel for PACHA but is also HIV Project Director at the pioneering LGBTQ legal group Lambda Legal. The six explain that they feel that they would "be more effective from the outside", urging members of Congress to continue to listen to advocates as they work to reform the healthcare system. All of the members of PACHA should follow the courageous lead of the six who resigned last week, and speak out loudly about this administration's brutal policies.

In an additional attempt to #KillThisBill, AIDS United is asking people to contact their senator to oppose the American Health Care Act.

"It will be people-many of them people of color-across the South and in rural and underserved areas across the country, the regions and communities now at the epicentre of the U.S. HIV/AIDS epidemic. Under the AHCA, people living with HIV only stand to lose".
