The President Is Not Under Investigation: Trump Attorney

Trump lawyer says President isn't under investigation despite tweets

President Donald Trump is not a target of the ongoing investigation into Russian tampering in the US election, Trump's lawyer said Sunday after the president tweeted he was under investigation two days earlier.

But in an televised interview, Jay Sekulow, a lawyer who is part of a team hired by Mr Trump to help deal with allegations of collusion by his campaign with Moscow, said that he was not being personally investigated. "The president is not and has not been under investigation for obstruction".

On "Fox News Sunday", Sekulow said that he was certain the president was not under investigation because he had received no notification or other indication that he was.

"The tweet from the president was in response to the five anonymous sources purportedly leaking info to the Washington Post", he said.

"The president has strong feelings about it and (what) I would communicate to the White House and to the world through this broadcast is, let this thing work its way through, let it be thorough and complete so no one will have any doubt", Rubio added.

"There's a limitation on Twitter, as we all know", the lawyer, who is chief counsel to the Washington, D.C. -based American Center for Law & Justice, told CNN. "That's it. Simple explanation", Sekulow told CNN's "State of the Union".

On Friday morning, President Trump sent a tweet that seemed to confirm that he was under scrutiny, writing, "I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director!" Mueller was later appointed as special counselor.

Earlier on Friday, Trump said he was being investigated for firing former FBI Director James Comey. Rep. Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House intelligence committee, said that the panel - overseeing one of several congressional investigations - is looking forward to getting a response from the White House on whether recordings exist.

Despite this, Stinchfield said that he would "like to get more information about what really happened there". STINCHFIELD: Alright, so we see an escalating number of attacks, as that is still under investigation.

The president has denied that he has any nefarious ties to Russian Federation and has also disputed that he's attempted to block the investigation into his campaign's possible role in Russia's election-related hacking. The tweet referred to a critique of Comey's handling of the FBI investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's private email server.

Both Coats and Rogers declined before the Senate intelligence committee earlier this month to answer questions about their conversations with Trump, but both said they had never felt urged by Trump to intervene in the Russian Federation probes.

Schiff said Trump, his legal team and his supporters were trying to discredit the special counsel and his investigation.

On Sunday, Trump again referred to the probe, but dismissed it as a "distraction".

The president has denied that he has any nefarious ties to Russian Federation and has also disputed that he's attempted to block the investigation into his campaign's possible role in Russia's election-related hacking.

And Senate intelligence committee member Sen. "The tape will speak for itself; you said he is being investigated".

"This is a very complex matter, involving thousands of pages of intelligence documents, lots of witnesses".
