Driver plows into crowd outside London mosque, injuring 10

The driver of the van - a 48-year-old man - was found detained by members of public at the scene and was arrested by police.

THE Finsbury Park attacker shouted "this is for London Bridge" after ploughing a van into Muslim worshippers just after midnight, a witness has told the Tribune.

The suspect remains in custody at a London police station.

He went outside and saw several injured people.

London police, already stretched by a series of major incidents around the capital, are putting more officers on the street to reassure the public after a driver plowed into a crowd of people leaving a mosque early Monday.

Qasimi blamed Islamophobia for the attack, saying: "This guy was extreme right wing, trying to kill Muslims because they are Muslims". A senior terrorism official at the Metropolitan Police has since declared that the incident is being treated as a terrorist attack.

Number of people assumed dead in London tower block blaze to rise
Anger is rising against British authorities over safety failings and a widely perceived slow release of information. The identification of the victims is proving very hard - which experts attribute to the extreme heat of the fire.

The Finsbury Park mosque was associated with extremist ideology for several years after the 9/11 attacks in the United States, but was shut down and reorganized.

A witness, who gave his name as Adil Rana, said the attacker tried to taunt onlookers as he was arrested.

GRANT STINCHFIELD (HOST): I was going to first ask you about the maybe attack in London, where again we had a van drive through folks it appears, in front of a mosque. "Some of them were very bad".

The use of a vehicle to mow down pedestrians drew horrifying parallels with the London Bridge attack, when three men drove a van into pedestrians before embarking on a stabbing spree, as well as with another auto and knife rampage in Westminster in March.

"I would like to particularly thank our Imam Mohammed Mahmoud, whose bravery and courage helped calm the immediate situation after the incident and prevented further injuries and potential loss of life", the Muslim Welfare House said in a statement after the incident.

British Security Minister Ben Wallace said the man who drove the van into worshippers was not previously known to authorities for any links to extremism. "All my thoughts are with the victims, their families and the emergency services on the scene".
