Brexit negotiations to start on June 19

The Prime Minister held talks with Arlene Foster, leader of the DUP on Tuesday, with a view to a "confidence and supply" agreement, in which the smaller party would support the Conservatives on budgetary and confidence votes.

■ TALKS between Theresa May and the DUP over a deal that would prop up the Conservative government have been "constructive" and are "going well".

In a reflection of her newfound humility, May managed a joke at her own expense as Britain's House of Commons got underway in the first sitting after Thursday's general election.

Foster and her colleagues were expected to ask for concessions on several Tory policies, including the scrapping of the triple-lock pension scheme, but May has said the NI party will have no veto on major policies.

The development comes after May sent her Chief Whip Gavin Williamson to Belfast for talks with the DUP after the election.

"I think there is a unity of goal among people in the United Kingdom", May said following a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday.

Following more than an hour of talks between May and DUP leader Arlene Foster on Tuesday, May said the discussion had been productive and Foster said she hoped a deal could be done "sooner rather than later".

Using Mrs May's election slogans against her, the Labour leader said: "I'm sure we all look forward to welcoming the Queen's Speech just as soon as coalition of chaos has been negotiated". But an alliance between May and a pro-Union party like the DUP could undermine the confidence of Northern Ireland's Catholics in the process and revive tensions in an area bordering the EU.

Trump publicly acknowledges Russia probe includes him
Thursday, Trump griped he was receiving unfair treatment from investigators compared with his election opponent, Hillary Clinton . Those very public actions and statements alone cry out for investigation. "I can go around them".

Sir John said he was "concerned" about the DUP deal, and said he is "wary" and "dubious" about the deal "both for peace process reasons but also for others reasons as well".

She needs DUP support to cling to power after her election fiasco, leaving the European Union's Brexit negotiator wondering when divorce talks will begin.

Theresa May insisted the Government was "absolutely steadfast" in its commitment to the Northern Irish peace process as she faced questions on whether a DUP-Tory alliance would put fragile agreements at risk.

May would emerge as an honourable leader who understands that she only barely has a mandate to govern, but very strongly has a mandate to deliver on the one issue the public has been clear about.

"The first phase of the negotiations will tackle three main areas: safeguarding the rights of citizens, financial settlement of the UK's obligations and the new external borders of the European Union", the Commission said.

"My preoccupation is that time is passing, it is passing quicker than anyone believes because the subjects we have to deal with are extraordinarily complex", he added.

"I will have a problem with it if money which is being given to Northern Ireland for purposes that are devolved to Wales and Scotland", he told BBC Radio Wales' Good Evening Wales programme.
