Fiat Chrysler Recalls Nearly 300000 Minivans

Research group finds results of Fiat emissions tests fishy

The recall comes after the problem was linked to at least 13 minor injuries although none of the accidental deployments caused a crash.

Starting in late July, dealers will begin to examine the airbag wiring for 209,000 minivans in the United States, plus around 88,000 in Canada, according to the statement.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Grand Caravan's problem stems from a poorly placed wiring harness associated with the steering wheel. The dealers will replace the faulty wiring if required and the outer covering.

Customers with questions or concerns can call the FCA US Customer Recall Information Centre at 1-800-853-1403.

According to an NBC report, Fiat Chrysler is recalling almost 297,000 vehicles for a wiring issue. Wiring may short circuit that can result in the driver side air bag deploying without warning. Caravan drivers are expected to be notified beginning July 28. These repairs will be made free of charge. Affected owners will be contacted by FCA.

Fiat Chrysler is recalling close to 300,000 minivans.
