McConnell faces a challenge passing health care in Senate

Senators' Demands Underscore McConnell's Health Care Problem

The filibuster in the Senate allows lawmakers to hold up legislation if a bill does not pass with 60 votes. "Dems (Democrats) would do it, no doubt!"

Large parts of the spending plan run through committees last week showed House Republicans are opposed to several significant cuts or policies in the Senate budget plan approved earlier this month.

The reason for the plan negotiated between the Republicans and Democrats is that we need 60 votes in the Senate which are not there!

The Senate, however, has invoked the so-called "nuclear option" in the past to get certain nominations - most recently of note Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch - through the Senate by a simple majority vote, but there is now no method for doing so with legislation.

House Republicans passed a measure May 4 axing major parts of the 2010 Affordable Care Act, including hundreds of billions in extra Medicaid money that 31 states now receive for expanding to cover more lower-income Americans under the federal insurance program.

Senior UK Cabinet ministers offer support to prime minister
Speaking during a visit to Mexico, Merkel ended her brief period of "polite" restraint from commenting on May's catastrophic poll. May has said Brexit talks will begin on June 19 as scheduled, the same day as the formal reopening of parliament.

Wading back into the politically suicidal waters of repealing the Affordable Care Act and leaving millions of Americans without health insurance coverage, GOP Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn said on Wednesday that Obamacare will be history "by the end of July".

McConnell, however, has repeatedly said he wouldn't touch the legislative filibuster.

Ernst says the Senate will be able to make individual changes to Obama's law where only a simple majority vote is required.

Trump's suggestions followed a series of tweets Tuesday in which he criticised Germany and attacked reports on ties between his campaign and Russian officials. Trump tweeted. In fact, the GOP can pass healthcare bills and tax reform with a 51-vote majority if Republicans can reach agreements among themselves.
