Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas hopeful after first talks with Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump has boldly stated his desire to do "whatever is necessary" to achieve a lasting peace deal in the decades-long Israeli-Palestinian conflict, despite the failure of several previous US administrations.

In their first meeting, Trump and Abbas discussed the advancement of the Middle East peace process and the strengthening of US-Palestinian relations, the White House said in a statement. He has done so after meeting with Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sissi, and King Abdullah II of Jordan, according to Hareetz.

President Trump also said that solving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is "something that frankly is not as hard as people have thought over the years" as long as both parties are willing.

Praising Mr Trump's "courageous leadership", "wisdom" and "great negotiating ability", he said: "We believe that we can be partners with you to bring about a historic peace".

Nabil Sha'ath, a senior foreign policy adviser to Abbas, said during an interview with Israel Radio that Netanyahu's demand was ludicrous.

President Trump expressed appreciation for President Abbas' unambiguous support for a negotiated settlement of the conflict.

Prime Minister Netanyahu called out Abbas' egregious lie. I hope that changes are possible and the real peace is achievable.

First Australian business infected in global cyber attack
Two hospitals were turning patients away from A&E yesterday and some operations and appointments were still being cancelled. FedEx, telecom companies Telefonica of Spain and Megafon of Russian Federation were also hit.

Neither of these accounts acknowledge that Abbas and the Palestinian Authority are guilty of incitement and the Times compounds the problem by citing Abbas's phony denial. Abbas has said the issue was not raised in his talks with Trump. It looks that as Abbas droned on and on, Trump looked like he'd rather be anyplace else.

The Palestinians want to set up a state in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and east Jerusalem, lands Israel captured in the 1967 Mideast war.

Mr. Abbas insisted that Palestinians were not preaching hatred.

The hunger strike is led by imprisoned uprising leader Marwan Barghouti, widely seen as the most popular choice to succeed the 82-year-old Abbas one day.

"I also applaud the Palestinian Authority's continued security cooperation with Israel", the woefully ignorant president of the United States said. "They failed in negotiations, in building institutions and in reforms".

I'm committed to working with Israel and the Palestinians to reach an agreement.
