Clark has been sheriff of Milwaukee County since 2002 and spent more than two decades before that with city's police department.

Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke, who built a following among conservatives with his provocative social media presence and strong support of Donald Trump, said Wednesday that he's taken a job as an assistant secretary in the Department of Homeland Security.

For years, Clarke has been a favorite of conservative media and campaigned for President Trump during the 2016 election. "No such announcement with regard to the Office of Public Engagement has been made".

Nonetheless, the very idea of Clarke, an avid Trump supporter who spoke at last year's Republican National Convention, being at DHS was enough to send haters on the left over the edge.

Abele said Clarke has engaged in "gratuitous name calling, insults of other public officials, questioning judges' sentences".

Democratic Senator Kamala Harris of California called Clarke's appointment "a disgrace".

"In January, Clarke threatened violence to fellow air passengers saying, 'next time he or anyone else pulls this stunt on a plane they may get knocked out.' That threat came after a passenger on a plane shook his head at him".

'Guardians' Of The Galaxy Vol. 3': Elizabeth Debicki Will Return As
Universal's "The Fate of the Furious " moved to second place with an estimated 8.5 million USA dollars in its fourth weekend. DreamWorks Animation and Fox's "The Boss Baby " landed in third place with an estimated 6.2 million USA dollars.

Clarke leaves Wisconsin amid calls for his resignation after an inquiry recommended felony charges in an inmate's death by dehydration in one of his jails past year. Voces' statement reads: "Clarke is unfit for any office and should face criminal charges for the deaths and abuses at the jail".

Clarke would also be leaving office with several pending lawsuits against him, including one filed by Thomas' relatives.

"Basically he'll be the liaison between DHS and different types of law enforcement", said Craig Peterson, a spokesman for Clarke.

"Our country deserves better", Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele, who has repeatedly clashed with Clarke, said of his appointment to the DHS position. Many of our neighbors oppose the program as it allows law enforcement to stop and question people based on just their appearance.

Whoever Walker picks will serve the remainder of Clarke's term, which runs through the end of 2018.

Once that happens, the governor will seek applications, a process that usually takes a couple of weeks, and then begin interviewing candidates.
