Trump declares James Comey 'should have never exonerated' Hillary Clinton

Mr Trump also cited comments from James Clapper, the director of national intelligence, at a Senate hearing earlier this week that he was not aware of any evidence demonstrating collusion between Trump's campaign and Russian Federation.

Trump also said that he'd asked Comey on three separate occasions, twice by phone and once over dinner, whether the FBI was investigating him.

Comey could testify during an investigation into the Trump campaign's ties to Russian Federation, meaning the president's tweet could be seen as witness intimidation.

In the afternoon, White House press secretary Sean Spicer repeatedly refused to say definitively whether recording devices had been placed in the White House, and he tried to downplay the notion that the president threatened the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director.

"The President needs to back off here and let the investigation go forward", Graham said.

The U.S. president said he would cancel all future press briefings and have written responses handed out "for the sake of accuracy".

Nearly half of those polled (46%) from May 11-13 said they believed the decision to dismiss Comey was motivated by how the FBI has dealt with the investigation into Russia's alleged involvement in the US election. Russian Federation denies the claims.

"Well, just don't have them", Trump said.

US, EU to meet next week in Washington to discuss aviation threats
Department of Homeland Security said the broader ban is "under consideration", though no final decisions have been made. A four-hour meeting was held in Brussels to discuss threats to aviation security.

The FBI probe and parallel congressional investigations have hung over Trump's presidency since he took office in January and threaten to overwhelm his policy priorities.

The White House initially cited a Justice Department memo criticising Mr Comey's handling of last year's investigation into Hillary Clinton's emails as the impetus for Mr Trump's decision.

Unfortunately for the press and the public it intends to serve, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer provided no clarity.

The White House said that the Times's account of the dinner was untrue and rejected the notion that Trump would make such a demand of a law enforcement agency head.

"As a very active President with lots of things happening, it is not possible for my surrogates to stand at podium with ideal accuracy!".

On Friday evening, NBC Nightly News aired a new clip from Lester Holt's interview with President Donald Trump conducted earlier in the week. Briefly during the presidential transition, Trump aides had discussed moving press out of the briefing room.

McCabe said "there has been no effort to impede our investigation to date", but promised to inform the Congress should the White House tries to interfere with the FBI investigation.
