Top US senator John McCain calls for removal of Turkey's US ambassador

Erdogan came away from Washington meeting with Trump ‘empty-handed

The visit was also marred by a violent attack on protesters outside the Turkish ambassador's residence in Washington on Tuesday that US officials said was carried out by Erdogan's presidential guards.

The US House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA) on May 17 sent a letter to Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson urging immediate action to hold individuals accountable for brutal attacks on peaceful protesters outside the Turkish Ambassador's residence on Tuesday, Asbarez reports.

Some social media video shows Turkish officials dressed in suits beating and punching people in the crowd and, in at least one case, kicking out at a woman lying on the ground curled up to protect herself. A man with a bullhorn is repeatedly kicked in the face. Washington DC police called in reinforcements and separated the two sides, making two arrests.

Mehmet Tankan, 31, said he was one of a dozen protesters outside the ambassador's residence chanting anti-Erdogan slogans when the brawl broke out. Violence is never an appropriate response to free speech, and we support the rights of people everywhere to free expression and peaceful protest.

The State Department said they were communicating their concern to the Turkish government in the "strongest possible terms".

Washington Police Chief Peter Newsham said at a news conference on Wednesday that police had a good idea of most of the assailants' identities and were investigating with the Secret Service and State Department. "This is the United States of America".

The Metropolitan Police Department said it had arrested two people for assault and identified them as United States residents, 49-year-old Ayten Necmi of NY and 42-year-old Jalal Kheirabadi of Virginia.

Jalal Kheirabadi, 42, of Fairfax, Virginia, is charged with assaulting a police officer, who refused treatment for lacerations to his face. Erdogan's security staff moved in to break up an anti-government protest after police refused to make the demonstrators leave a park across the street.

Nawaz Sharif said there are bright prospects for investment in e-commerce in Pakistan. The two countries are already working on CPEC (the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor).

Turkey's foreign minister also demanded that a US envoy be removed for allegedly backing the Kurds.

Court paperwork spells his name Kheirabaoi, but he said that is incorrect.

Turkey's foreign minister on Thursday called on the Trump administration to replace its envoy to the anti-Islamic State coalition - the latest sign of Turkish frustration with the USA war strategy in Syria and of mounting tensions between the two North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies.

Erdoğan also commented on Turkey's fight against the PKK's Syrian offshoot, the Democratic Union Party (PYD) and its armed wing, the People's Protection Units (YPG) and Daesh in Syria, saying Turkey would not hesitate to carry out further operations like its Euphrates Shield campaign.

But Trump and his national security team say the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, or SDF, is the most effective battlefield partner against the Islamic State in northern and eastern Syria.

At their meeting Tuesday, Trump said the USA would re-establish its military and economic partnership with Turkey, committing to backing Turkey's defense against both Islamic State and the PKK.
