Salient features of ICJ's ruling on Kulbhushan Jadhav case

President of the court Ronny Abraham also told Pakistan that consular access should have been given to Jadhav.

The International Court of Justice will deliver its verdict on India's appeal seeking a revocation of the death sentence awarded to alleged spy Kulbhushan Jadhav by a Pakistani court May 18.

Indicating that it would abide by the world court's order on "provisional measures", staying the execution of Jadhav, Pakistan Attorney General Ashtar Ausaf Ali's office said the interim order had "no bearing, whatsoever, on the final decision" of the ICJ.

The verdict in Kulbhushan Jadhav case will be given today at 3:30 PM by The International Court of Justice (ICJ). India's External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said the ICJ outcome comes as a great relief to Jadhav's family.

However, India, after being denied consular access for 16th time, dragged Pakistan to the ICJ on May 8 for violating the Vienna Convention.

Now the concluding decision is anticipated in August 2017 by International Court.

The ICJ ruled that there is the possibility of "irrevocable prejudice to the rights of Jadhav". "Pakistan had denied consular access to India but it informed India that consular access will be considered after India's assistance in the investigation of the issue".

Australia would "work very closely with our partners around the world" in constantly reviewing aviation security, he said. But the security and safety issues of bundling the devices in the cargo hold of aircraft is also being weighed up.

Jadhav was arrested in the southwestern Pakistani province of Balochistan in March 2016. India termed that the confession of Jadhav was forcibly taken by the military while in captivity and he was tried by a military court in Pakistan. Pakistan, on the other hand had argued that the ICJ is not a criminal court and can not decide such type of cases relating to national security.

He said India weaved a humanitarian angle in the Indian-spy Kulbushan Jadhav's case to divert the world's attention from his real actions: fomenting terrorism inside Pakistan. Quoting "buzz" from the Hague, the journalist said India will be granted consular access while Pakistan will have to suspend the spy's sentence for now.

The tribunal has not yet decided whether it has jurisdiction to hear India's case, and a final ruling could take months, if not years. On Monday, both Pakistan and India presented their arguments and stances regarding the case.

They requested the court to ensure that the United States should not execute or set execution dates for any Mexican national before the court passed judgment.

Islamabad accused Jadhav of carrying out "terrorist activities aimed at destabilizing Pakistan" on behalf of India's foreign intelligence agency, the Research & Analysis Wing.

Pakistan and India have a history of bitter relations, and Jadhav's death sentence has further strained ties.

Pakistan in its argument said India's application on Jadhav's death sentence was "unnecessary and misconceived".
