NBA Prospects Don't Like Lonzo Ball's Shoes But, Like The Idea

Those weren't Santa Ana winds sweeping across Southern California on Tuesday evening during the 2017 National Basketball Association draft lottery.

Another piece that could be involved in a trade with the Lakers is their No. 28 pick in the first round.

While the draft itself is not until June 22, rumors and mock drafts have already hinted that the Lakers may be thinking about selecting UCLA freshman Lonzo Ball with their pick. Without those picks, the Lakers likely wouldn't be able to swing a trade for him either - at least not a trade that would leave the Lakers with enough pieces to seriously compete in the Western Conference.

"It's a safe bet that George won't cry about becoming a Laker now, and he would be widely expected to re-sign".

Of course, LaVar is confident that Lonzo will wind up in a Lakers jersey, to the point where he recently told Lakers Nation's own Ryan Ward that they will not work out for any team besides Los Angeles.

When all that is dropping in just the first day, it would be understandable for the Lakers front office to be slightly wary of the media situation they would create by drafting Lonzo Ball. You can't bring him to L.A., he ain't ready for this. "Particularly the young guys because they have something to prove".

Ainge's patience pays off with Celtics' draft lottery win
The Hornets could still end up trading up or down in the draft depending on which player they want to go after. Bill Burt is executive sports editor for CNHI Sports Boston. you can email him at bburt@eagletribune.com.

"He's got great ideas, so we're going to implement a plan where we can have him involved", he added.

The annual NBA Draft lottery will take place on Tuesday night. According to SI.com's Jake Fischer, "multiple National Basketball Association teams are evaluating trade packages for D'Angelo Russell". As a team, they were No. 26 in assists per game (20.9).

Ball starred in his only season at nearby UCLA.

According to Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress, Ball is the "heavy favorite" to go No. 2, but the Lakers could also look at Kentucky's DeAaron Fox, considered one of the top point guards in the draft.

Could L.A. thrive with a Russell/Ball backcourt? While some believe Lonzo Ball will face additional challenges in living up to hype from his father (or anyone else), most believe he has the makeup to overcome those obstacles.
