Kentucky's unemployment rate increases to 5.1 percent in April

Conservative Interim Leader Rona Ambrose in Ottawa Thursday

The Massachusetts economy added 3,900 jobs in April, as the statewide unemployment rate ticked up to 3.9 percent.

Employment last month was up 14,832 and the number of unemployed also grew by 2,450.

"Through the first four months of 2017, MA has added over 20,000 jobs, with much of those gains coming from key sectors of the economy like professional, business and scientific services", Ronald L. Walker, II, secretary of labor and workforce development, said in a statement.

Year-over-year, Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates MA has added 58,600 jobs.

"Jobs are being created, unemployment continues to fall and the labor market is tightening", he said.

Connecticut's jobless ranks increased last month by about 1,900.

Just three of Connecticut's 10 major industry super-sectors added jobs in April, led by construction and mining, which added 2,800 positions.

The industry posting the biggest jobs decline was professional and business services, which lost 3,000 jobs, to 215,700, down 1.4 percent.

She skipped a news conference after pulling out of a second-round match in Rome on Tuesday because of a left thigh injury. If no wild card is awarded, the 30-year-old would need to negotiate her way through qualifying at Roehampton.

Over the two months taken together, the majority of the new jobs were full time - 62,400 versus 35,000 part time.

The construction sector and the education and health services sector each added 1,500 jobs in April 2017.

The unemployment rate for April returned to 5.7 per cent, where it has been for most of the past 18 months.

"Growth in part-time employment, rather than full-time work, becomes a problem - and indeed undesirable - when there is growth in the number of workers who are not working as much as they would like". Despite the deceleration, OR is still growing faster than the USA growth rate of 1.6 percent.

Other sectors reported losses.

Government employment declined by 500 jobs in April.

Investors are hopeful that radical reforms by new French President Emmanuel Macron will help keep unemployment below double digit levels as he plans to ease the country's rigid labour laws, although he faces some resistance from opposition parties and Unions who fear that worker's rights may be eroded.

The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) held interest rates at a record low 1.50 percent for a ninth straight month in May as it balances weak domestic demand and inflation against escalating household debt.
