Google poised to roll out arsenal of services, gadgets

Google's Home smart speaker is coming to Australia

Mobile phone apps took center stage at Google's annual developer conference on Wednesday as the search giant announced new features for its digital assistant and its popular photo app while devoting little time to the Android mobile operating system. They build on two products - Google Assistant and Google Home - announced at last year's conference.

"Many of these new features in Google Assistant, Photos, and Home add value but also require the sharing of a lot of personal voice, photo, video and location information", said Patrick Moorhead, principal analyst at Moor Insight and Strategies.

The push marks another step toward infusing almost all of Google's products with some semblance of artificial intelligence.

In chemistry, Pichai said the company's tools could be used to develop synthetic molecules for the drug discovery and material science industry that can be tailor-made to behave in certain pre-defined ways.

But Pichai and Google co-founder Larry Page, now CEO of Google corporate parent Alphabet Inc., see it differently.

Rompers For Men: Your New Favorite Summer Outfit?
The cash is evidence that this long-embraced female fashion trend is coming soon to a bro near you at bars, beaches and festivals. Many public figures, including TV personality Steve Irwin and Sean Connery's James Bond, have rocked similar styles in the past.

The really cool news here is that iOS users do not have to really wait for Google Assistant to hit Apple's App Store. Google says the first breed of standalone headsets with its underlying VR technology will hit the market later this year from Lenovo Group and HTC. This while people using its dominant internet search engine and leading email service have been feeding the machines valuable pieces of personal information for almost 20 years.

On the surface, it doesn't sound like Android Go will be all that different to Android O. In fact, you are unlikely to be able to tell the difference unless you look at the focus areas of the new software configuration, such as the Play Store or the data-specific features within Google apps. In the coming months Google will be adding "Proactive Notifications" to the Google Home.

Google Lens uses image recognition software and artificial intelligence to answer queries based on photos. Or point the camera at the exterior of a restaurant and it will pull up reviews of the place. It even works in Google Photos, should you forget about monuments or other locations and want Google Lens to help you remember them.

Now, Google is splitting up these recommendations by service, meaning that Netflix, YouTube and other apps on the platform automatically get their own row, or channel, as Google officially calls it.

Facebook has been trying to address this issue as well with its Moments app.
