Eurovision winner arrives home to Portugal

Portugal won their first victory in 53 years on Saturday night (13th May) with Salvador Sobral.

Salvador Sobral won with his song "Amar Pelos Dois", which translates as For the Both of Us.

"Music is not fireworks, music is feeling", Sobral said following the triumph.

The UK's last win came in 1997 from the Katrina Leskanich-fronted Katrina And The Waves, who said Jones "absolutely smashed it" in a post on Twitter.

It is a considerable improvement for the United Kingdom, after last year's entrants Joe and Jake came 24th with 62 points. Robin Bengtsson with I Can't Go On Sweden won the contest in 2015, and Robin was this year placed third after the jury vote for his slick pop song.

Kristian Kostov from Bulgaria has registered the best ever performance for a Bulgarian artist in Eurovision song contest in Kyiv, Ukraine. But those sweet intentions were soured this year when Russia's participation was scuttled by host Ukraine over the two nations' diplomatic and military conflict.

Chavez dismissed those accusations as a right-wing campaign against him. "Venezuela will resolve its own internal problems". Diego Arellano, 31, was shot in the chest in San Antonio de los Altos, a Caracas suburb, according to prosecutors.

The union, however, has been criticized for not barring "1944" by last year's victor Jamala of Ukraine, which focused on the 1944 forced relocation of Crimean Tatars by Soviet dictator Josef Stalin.

BBC Monitoring reported that Ukrainian TV identified him as "scandalous" Ukrainian prankster Vitaliy Sedyuk.

The incident forced BBC commentator Graham Norton to apologise to United Kingdom viewers at home, telling them: "It's been brought to our attention that you may have witnessed a bare bottom earlier in this performance".

The contest this year took place in the Kiev International Exhibition Centre in Ukraine.

Isaiah finished a very respectable ninth while Australian Anja Nissen representing Denmark was 20th out of the 26 countries competing in the grand final.

Originally built in 1998 for the Lisbon World Exposition, the MEO Arena has played as a host venue to a number of big events over the years to follow including numerous sporting events such as football and wrestling, as well as hosting the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2005.
