Chelsea Manning released after 7 years in military prison

And on Wednesday Purse Films announced at the Cannes Film Festival, that they're beginning a documentary following Chelsea as she adapts to the real world after seven years in prison, for crimes the American government claims-and many fellow military and former military concur-put American soldiers in harms way.

The soldier was actually born Bradley Manning, but revealed after being sentenced to prison that she always felt like a woman and wanted to live her life as Chelsea rather than Bradley. There, she worked as an intelligence analyst and had a chance to see information about army operations in the Middle East that she found deeply disturbing.

On Monday she tweeted: "Two more days until the freedom of civilian life ^_^ Now hunting for private #healthcare like millions of Americans =P".

She was eventually cleared of "aiding the enemy", but convicted of 17 of the 22 charges brought against her after she pled guilty to 10.

Over the years, Manning, who has had a Twitter account since 2013, has remained vocal about her imprisonment, transition, and politics. In 2013, she was sentenced to 35 years in prison for leaking information relating to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

In 2014, the Kansas District Court approved Manning's name change from Bradley to Chelsea.

He later added : "When I say we are going to be ready to win when the Cavs are going down, that doesn't mean, like, five years". Tokotos and Russ Smiths in your second-round pursuits.

Manning, who came out as transgender on the first day of her sentence, has faced challenges in federal prison and is confirmed to have attempted suicide at least twice, once in July and again as she was sentenced to solitary confinement in November for that initial attempt.

Amnesty International, which had campaigned for Manning's release, was quick to applaud her freedom but said the fight was not over.

"Presenting myself in the gender that I am is about my right to exist", she said.

Manning had been held at Fort Leavenworth in Kansas, during which time she transitioned to a woman but was denied permission to grow her hair. She eventually received hormone treatment while in prison.

The Army initially refused to provide her with hormone therapy, but agreed to provide the treatment a year ago as a result of a lawsuit filed by the ACLU. Her representatives allege that she was subjected to violence in prison and that she was mistreated by the military, which forced her to serve her sentence in an all-male prison.

Obama's decision to commute Manning's sentence to about seven years, including the time she spent locked up before being convicted, drew strong criticism from members of Congress and others, with Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan calling the move "just outrageous". She was freed with 28 years remaining-still making her sentence double the next longest amount of time served-because President Obama commuted her remaining sentence as one of his final acts. I am looking forward to so much!
