Air Canada flight lands after passenger tries to open cabin door

An Air Canada plane sits at a gate

Courneyea was flying from Jamaica to Toronto on Monday night (15 May) when the incident happened, forcing the plane to land at Orlando International Airport.

She heard him yell at passengers for looking at him and then she saw him throw some paper at a woman sitting near him.

Eventually, the criminal complaint states, Courneyea entered the back of the plane, picked up a full coffee pot and began swinging it at a flight attendant. While he was pulling on the lever, he said it only takes one guy to bring down a plane and he was going to take everyone with him.

He said the man threatened to throw a hot coffee pot at him while he was trying to assist the crew with calming him down.

"When confronted [by the flight attendant], Courneyea lunged for the rear cabin exit door and began to pull the door lever up to open the door".

Michael Thompson says he and other passengers subdued and restrained a belligerent man on a flight home from Jamaica earlier this week to calm what they felt had become "a unsafe situation". "That was probably the longest 45 minutes I've been through in quite some time", said passenger Bobbie-Lyn Shank.

Later, he was arrested by Federal officials.

Palestinian president hopeful after talks with Trump
The issue of stipends for families of Palestinians killed or jailed in the context of the conflict with Israel is sensitive. Three Republican senators urged a halt to such payments in a letter to Trump that reflected widespread opinion in Congress.

According to CTV News, one of those passengers who restrained the man was a Toronto councilman.

"He was baffled on Orlando due to an unruly and turbulent passenger", the Canadian carrier said in a statement on Wednesday. Our Captain diverted the flight to Orlando where it landed safely.

Air Canada spokeswoman Isabelle Arthur said Courneyea's efforts to open a door mid-flight would not have succeeded, saying it's "impossible to do during flight".

Brandon Michael Courneyea is charged in the U.S. City.

She said Courneyea had gone to Jamaica on Friday for a vacation and, after reading the criminal complaint, said the allegations against her husband were completely out of character.

Thompson said he tried to remain cool-headed during the tense situation. "We didn't attempt to injure him or anything like that".

Amanda Courneyea said she has not been allowed to speak to her husband since his arrest, adding his absence is taking a toll on her and her family.
