Madison school budget referendum passes Tuesday, 99 to 49

At the board's April meeting, district business manager Dan Bush estimated the plan for the new school was over budget by approximately $1.3 million. The budget is an increase of about $1.7 million over this year's $55.6 million figure. It also increases spending by about 1.01 percent - $655,377 - even after $1.5 million in cuts were achieved through eliminating about 18 positions, including teaching positions, and administrator, custodians, clerical workers and a nurse. Casey received the majority of the votes, with 2,301 and Hoffman received 1,466.

"The federal budget has not been passed yet, but it's my understanding we will receive federal tax funds for the '17-'18 year", Bodamer said.

The Sherman Central School District proposed a 2017-18 budget of $9,998,333 -a 28.63 percent increase from 2007-08. The two school board seats went to the only two running, Peggy Bush, with 171, and Cynthia Struckle with one more vote than Bush. The next highest vote getter, Ms. Rana-Brophy, got 111 votes and will serve for a one-year term.

In Downsville, the budget passed 85-19, and school board member Brian LaTourette kept his seat with 97 votes.

If approved, the tax hike would be the fourth lowest in Chester County behind the Oxford, Great Valley and Downingtown school districts, finance director Christopher Gehris said at the May 8 budget meeting.

For a property assessed at $79,280 - the district median - that means an annual school property tax bill of $3,111. During this current school year, there were 65 days in the First Semester, and 78 days in the Second Semester - a difference of 13 days. Incumbent Stephen Sycdek and Robert Becker received 720 and 711 votes, respectively.

Even so, local property owners will not be hit with an increase in school-related property taxes.

A proposition to purchase a bus passed, 241-72. James MacFadden was the only candidate for school board and got 110 votes.

The following is a breakdown of each district's candidates and budget information. The resignation of Kristy Moore, middle school teacher, after five years of service, was also approved.

Chinese media warn India over Belt and Road project
The strategy includes two key areas of development such as economic belt of the Silk Road and the Sea Silk Road. Xi did not mention the North during his speech, but it was discussed at a meeting with Putin.

Margaretville budget also passes 93-82, with the bus position passing 82-35.

The school budget passed by an unofficial vote of 836-212. "All the propositions will benefit the school district".

Extending the bus route, if approved, would cost about $68,000 and would be paid for in the coming year out of the fund balance.

The Columbus Community School District's School Improvement Advisory Committee, or SIAC, presented its district-wide goals and objectives to the Columbus School Board on May 10. Michelle Isabella (239) finished third. This would make up 22.43 percent of the proposed budget. It is lower than this year's budget.

The tax levy will increase by about 2.67 percent.

Just under 94% of registered voters in New Rochelle did not vote to support the budget.

Also, two incumbents and one newcomer were elected to three-year terms on the Niagara-Wheatfield Board of Education in an extremely close race.

District voters approved the $57.3 million spending plan for 2017-18 by a margin of 723 to 112. "I encourage you to contact our assemblymen and senator about increasing our state funding because it would help greatly with the property taxes", Miller said. David Locastro (504) and Margaret Vensel (612) were elected to three-year terms on the school board.
