Intel could soon unveil expensive Core i9 CPU

Intel's next-gen Core i9 series teased: 12C/24T of power

Intel's new Core i9 lineup will start things off with four units: the i9-7800X, the i9-7820X, the i9-7900x, and the i9-7920X, the most powerful of them all. In the past, a raw number of cores hasn't corresponded well to usable power, but AMD's latest generation of Ryzen CPUs have offered great performance at a price much lower than what Intel can now charge. All four will be based on Intel's Skylake-X architecture while the upcoming i7 7640K and 7740K processors will be 4 core chips using Kaby Lake.

The i9-7920X will come next with 16.5Mb of onboard L3 cache and supporting 44 PCIe lanes. It has twelve threads and 28 PCIe lanes, as well as a base clock speed of 3.5 GHz that can go up to 4.0 in Turbo mode. It will clock at 4.0 GHz normally and 4.2 GHz when boosted. This unit, however, will have a base clock rate of 4.3 GHz and it will make a 0.2 GHz jump when user step on the Turbo 2.0.

Core i9-7900X: 10 cores, 20 threads, 3.3GHz base, 4.3GHz Turbo, 4.5GHz Turbo Boost 3.0, 13.75MB of L3, 44 lanes of PCIe 3.0.

The new Core i9 chips all feature hyperthreading, and offer 1Mb of dedicated L2 cache, which is four times that on the Core i7-7700K.

I'm not at all certain these leaks reflect the chips Intel will announce at Computex. Joining the range would be the Kaby Lake X chip at a later date.

ESPN Ending 'Mike & Mike' Radio Show After 17 Years
But no version of " SportsCenter " will air on ESPN during the day until "SC6" with Jemele Hill and Michael Smith at 6 p.m. Elements of the show are now in development, but the program will feature a lively mix of news, opinion and analysis.

Last week, a member of Anandtech forums, leaked what appears to be a new series of processors by Intel.

The 10-core chip in the Skylake-X lineup, for example, can achieve a maximum turbo boost 2.0 speed of 4.3GHz. These new chips slash that ratio to 1.375MB per core. If these cache counts are accurate, they reflect plans Intel made a year or more ago, not any recent response to a renewed competitive environment. The six-to-12-core variants will all be rated at a 140-watt thermal design power, while the quad-core chips will be rated at 112 watts.

The Core i7-7640K processor would be an entry level CPU and is also based on the 14nm+ process node. None of the other processors leaked here list Turbo Max support, though it's possible the Core i9-7920X will, since no clockspeeds were provided. It scores 116 points (Single-Core) and 1525 points (Multi-Core).

All told, it looks as if Intel has done a much better job with its Skylake-X line of products than it did with the prior generation of Broadwell-E parts aimed at the same market.
