Intel Corporation's Core X-Series Processors Revealed

Intel Corporation's Core X-Series Processors Revealed

According to a leaked and blurry internal Intel presentation, which originally showed up at Anandtech forum, Intel is preparing to launch four Skylake-X SKUs, with six-, eight-, ten- and twelve-cores, all of which will be the first Core i9 processors from the company, leaving the Core i7 to Kaby Lake-X quad-core and earlier Kaby Lake CPUs high-end and gaming CPUs. Kaby Lake-X will continue to use the Core i7 naming scheme. The 10-core Core i9-7900X has 13.75MB of L3 cache and works at 3.3GHz base and 4.3GHz Turbo clocks. A massive leak about the processor family confirms that Intel will be doing away with the naming scheme it has always followed and will now come out with a Core i9 processor. These new offerings of the i7 Core lineup will fall under the Kaby Lake-X category, and they will deliver enhanced performance for a hefty premium, according to reports. The products can be made available by the end of June.

Almost a decade ago, Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) introduced a new branding scheme for its personal computer processors - a standard "good, better, best" scheme. This unit, however, will have a base clock rate of 4.3 GHz and it will make a 0.2 GHz jump when user step on the Turbo 2.0. However, there's no telling yet whether it would have a higher base clock value than the 10-core i9-7900X model.

The i7-7640X will be a quad-core processor with four threads, 6 MB of onboard L3 cache memory, 16 PCIe lanes, and dual DDR4-2666 RAM. Both turbo figures are Turbo Boost 2.0, and neither of them has Turbo Boost Max 3.0 functionality.

Drake Traveled to Memphis to Give His Cousin the Proper Prom Send-Off
The three-time Grammy victor and his cousin shared photos from the night on their social media accounts. While there was speculation he might perform, prom guests confirmed he only hung out at the dance.

The 10-core chip in the Skylake-X lineup, for example, can achieve a maximum turbo boost 2.0 speed of 4.3GHz. Of those, only the 7920X's base and boost clocks aren't immediately known based on this morning's benchmarks.

One other change that's visible, though, is that with the Broadwell-E lineup, the maximum Turbo Boost 2.0 speeds decreased as core count increased.

With the new lineup, the higher-end parts are unequivocally better than the lower-end ones, something that wasn't true before. I wouldn't be surprised if Intel asked for more than $1,000 for this Core i9 CPU. It'll be interesting to see if this product stack is compelling enough to drive upsell from Intel's mainstream desktop platform to the high-end desktop platform, and up the stack within the high-end desktop platform.
