France fines Facebook over data practices

Facebook Fined by French Privacy Watchdog Over Data

Its relatively tiny size, especially compared to Facebook's market capitalization of $435 billion, is actually the maximum CNIL could fine when it began its investigation, according to Reuters.

But the French watchdog said Facebook's explanations to users didn't allow them to understand that their data was being collected as soon as they navigate to a third-party website.

"We take note of the CNIL's decision with which we respectfully disagree", the company said in a statement to the Guardian.

Spain, Belgium and the German city of Hamburg are also scrutinising the company, which now faces two Spanish probes and lawsuits in Germany and Belgium.

All 28 European Union data protection authorities asked WhatsApp past year to stop sharing users' data with Facebook due to doubts over the validity of users' consent.

Sabathia Stops His Own Losing Streak, Yankees Topple Royals 7-1
But the Yankees didn't have to hit their way through the Royals. "I don't think what he did early on was a fluke", Girardi said. Sabathia struck out Salvador Perez and Bonifacio before walking Soler and surrendering an infield single to Alex Gordon.

They formed a group to analyze changes Facebook had made to its privacy policy back in 2014 and the fine comes as a result of that analysis.

"As a result, the restricted committee has chose to pronounce a public sanction of 150,000 euros against Facebook Inc and Facebook Ireland", the watchdog said in a statement. The Belgian privacy commissioner has already taken Facebook to court for the way it uses cookies to track people online.

When the Belgium data protection authority sued Facebook in 2015, the company claimed that the datr cookie is used as a security feature to stop spam, fake accounts, botnets, and so on. It is prepared to hit them where it hurts - in the pocket - to force them to comply with data protection laws.

The social media giant finally responses and claimed that the Irish data protection authority, not the CNIL had the power to serve them such orders questioning the integrity of the operations of their local subsidiary. Due to disobedience, French Watch Dogs have fined Facebook.

"The company breaches Dutch data protection law including by giving users insufficient information about the use of their personal data", the DPA said in a statement.
