Defense Department identifies Navy SEAL killed in Somalia

US troop killed in clash with al-Shabaab militants in Somalia

In a statement, the defense department said Milliken had been killed "during an operation against al-Shabaab ... in a remote area approximately 40 miles west of Mogadishu ... in support of a Somali National Army-led operation with US Africa Command".

USA forces were conducting a partnered operation with members of the Somalia National Army, Davis said, noting this was an operation targeting an al-Shabaab group that had been associated with attacks against the United States, Somalia and African Union Mission in Somalia forces.

Two other United States service members were also wounded.

The US lost its first troop in Somalia since 1993 when a raid on an al-Shabaab compound resulted in one dead and three injured American special forces' personnel.

Speaking to reporters, al-Shabaab spokesman Sheikh Abulaziz Abu Muscab claimed that USA forces attacked Darussalam village in Lower Shabelle region with air support but "failed their mission".

While the US military is still analyzing intelligence to find out if the targets of the mission were among the dead, the Somali government declared it a victory. He was based on the East Coast since 2004.

U.S. Ambassador to Somalia Stephen Michael Schwartz who extended heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the victim cited the strong relationship Washington has with Mogadishu.

A U.S. military official confirmed that this is the first United States service member killed in action in Somalia since 1993, when two Black Hawk helicopters were shot down and 18 American soldiers were killed in the Battle for Mogadishu.

Samsung Has Sold More than 10 Million Galaxy S8 Units Since Launch
Usually, in the U.S. customers can only get their hands on a Samsung Galaxy S device with a Qualcomm chipset. The company is planning to launch the smartphone in around 120 countries by the end of May.

The U.S.in recent years has sent a small number of special operations forces and counterterrorism advisers to Somalia and carried out a number of airstrikes, including drone strikes, against al-Shabab.

In March, President Donald Trump eased some combat rules for preventing civilian casualties in Somalia, allowing for a more escalated campaign against terrorists in the region. The U.S. Africa Command said the deployment was for logistics training of Somalia's army. It continues to control rural areas in parts of the country.

"If things deteriorate as a result of military effort, that will be manmade".

The US recently deployed several dozen regular soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division to the mission in Somalia, adding to about 50 special operations soldiers in the country.

Somalia has been at war since 1991, when clan-based warlords overthrew dictator Siad Barre and then turned on each other.

"An air landing operation by U.S. special forces was thwarted in Lower Shabelle province and a number of their soldiers were killed and wounded, " al-Shabab said in its Shahada News Agency.

This the second SEAL combat death this year.
