Jeter's No 2 retired by Yanks; Monument Park plaque unveiled

In a franchise that has included the likes of Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle and Joe DiMaggio among many others, Jeter may very well be the most beloved Yankee in history. Jeter was joined at the ceremony by his pregnant wife, 27-year-old model Hannah Jeter.

“Having five people from that group is kind of hard to believe, ” Jeter said. The Yankees gave Jeter framed replicas of his retired number and plaque, according to ESPN, as well as a 14-karat white gold ring with a list of his accomplishments.

"[It's] ironic because it's the only game I played in here that didn't mean anything, " Jeter said in the pregame ceremony.

Jeter spent two decades with the Yankees and finished his career as the team's all-time leader in hits (3,465), games played (2,747), at-bats (11,195), doubles (544) and stolen bases (358).

Derek Jeter entered to Frank Sinatra's "My Way" and exited to Tina Turner's "Simply The Best".

"That's the thing that I appreciated the most because it was the only place I've ever wanted to play".

Anyway: On Sunday, the couple stepped out for a ceremony to retire Derek's jersey number at the Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. "And I'll be eternally grateful to be a part of the Yankees family".

Antonio Conte crowned king of Chelsea during celebrations - but there's a twist
Naturally, the likes of Eden Hazard, Diego Costa and N'Golo Kante will be regarded as the on-field heroes of the season. Terry made his 716th Chelsea appearance and likely his penultimate one at Stamford Bridge, scoring his 67th goal.

Of course, you can't honor a legendary baseball player without giving him a bunch of expensive gifts.

"He's going to be shut down for two weeks and then we'll reassess", Cashman said.

Backed by a 9-0 lead, Charlie Morton (5-2) gave up four runs in 5 2/3 innings, including Matt Holliday's three-run homer in a four-run fifth (see full recap).

Among players on the most recent Yankees dynasty, Posada (20), Rivera (42), Pettitte (46) and Williams (51) also had their numbers retired. "Any time I'm unprepared, it makes me uncomfortable", he admitted.

Jeter didn't have No. 2 in his mind before reaching the Yankees. Jeter is reportedly teaming with Jeb Bush in trying to buy the Miami Marlins, whom Mattingly manages.

"I never took it for granted when we won", Jeter said, "but we never looked back at anything that we had accomplished, it was always 'what's next?'"
