Young man is 9th fatality in Venezuela protests this month

Thousands of demonstrators rallied Wednesday against Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in Caracas.

The plant was confiscated Wednesday as anti-Maduro protesters clashed with security forces and pro-government groups. Tens of thousands of protesters flooded the streets again Thursday, one day aft.

The deaths occurred in the capital's southwestern El Valle district, the ministry said in a statement, adding six people were also wounded.

Protests against Venezuela's socialist president, Nicolas Maduro, and his government have led to violence, with hundreds of thousands of protesters filling the streets during the past few weeks.

"The person responsible [for the killings] is Julio Borges, as he has repeatedly spread his message of violence, hate and intolerance", Mr El Aissami said.

Liliana Altuna says looters armed with guns and knives attacked about 30 businesses in the community of El Valle over the course of five hours.

For the second day, the opposition, which accuses Maduro of creating a dictatorship, asked marchers to meet at 26 points throughout Caracas and try to converge on the office of the government's top human rights official.

People demonstrate against Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro in Caracas, Venezuela, April 20, 2017. "We lost everything here", said Mustafa, who said he could hear the looting from his home, which is adjacent to the store. The accounts varied, but one opposition leader said 13 people were hit with an electrical current after tossing containers filled with water and making contact with the refrigerator's power cord.

Vicente Paez, a local councilman, said Mr Guitan was an employee of a Caracas-area city governed by an opposition mayor and did not join the protests. "We continue to work with the Venezuelan government to seek solutions to convert currency".

Opposition leaders vowed to seek his ouster through constitutional means, but the government-stacked Supreme Court has stopped them at every turn.

Some residents came out on balconies to cheer as the politicians urged supporters to don white and march silently through Caracas on Saturday to commemorate the eight people killed in the demonstrations. There's also a sit-in to block major highways planned for Monday.

The governments of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay are "energetically condemning" the violence in Venezuela and lamenting that global calls for the ongoing demonstrations to be peaceful have been ignored.

Yesterday, Maduro said the opposition was ready to begin dialogue, but his opponents denied the claim, saying the only way forward is to call elections.

The government abruptly postponed regional elections last year that the opposition was heavily favoured to win and it cut off a petition drive aimed at forcing a referendum seeking Mr Maduro's removal before elections scheduled for late next year.

The government is asking for dialogue, a technique that they employed back in 2014 but saw no real results, but rather a "cooling down" of the protests, allowed by the opposition to show that they are willing to reach a peaceful settlement.

Later Thursday, Maduro said he had called for an investigation into cellphone operator Movistar on accusations that it was part of the "coup-minded march" organized by adversaries of his government.

During the past year, the social and economical situation in Venezuela has been deeply affected by a freezing of the productive system of this country which has triggered in an ascent of the indices of crime and poverty.

The EU's executive commission said Thursday that it was "saddened" by the deaths of two young people during Wednesday's protests.
