Michigan State player charged with criminal sexual conduct

A Michigan State University football player has been charged with sexual assault after an investigation from Meridian Township police

Michigan State has dismissed defensive lineman Auston Robertson following a sexual assault charge.

After it was announced he'd been charged with criminal sexual conduct following an April 9 incident, Robertson was let go by Dantonio and the Spartans, marking the second run-in with the law he's had in just over a year.

Prosecutors didn't say much else about the charge, but a police detective testified in court today and discussed details of the case.

"Our players are representatives not only of themselves and their families, but also Michigan State University, this football program and all of those who support us", Dantonio said in his statement.

Three other players are part of a sexual assault investigation following a January incident.

On April 12, Dantonio was asked if any players who participated in the April 1 spring game were suspended or no longer with the team. Robertson did not sign with Michigan State until after he entered the diversionary program. The university has confirmed that recruiting director Curtis Blackwell is the only football staff member now under suspension, but would not say if his suspension was related to the sexual assault allegations. He is the fourth Michigan State football player suspended amid sexual assault allegations this year.

Scott Hughes, an Ingham County Prosecutor's Office spokesperson, said he could not comment on the case as the evidence could be brought up in court later.

"This investigation is an ongoing process".

"W$3 e will continue to educate and enforce high standards for the program". The maximum prison sentence for third-degree criminal sexual conduct in MI is 15 years.

He temporarily delayed signing a letter of intent with Michigan State while sorting through those legal issues. That charge was later removed from his record after completing a diversionary program earlier this year.
