India knows Pakistan has sufficient evidence against Kulbhushan: Abdul Basit

Kulbhushan Jadhav

Jadhav, a former Naval officer, was sentenced to death by a Pakistan military court on Monday for alleged spying. He further warned Pakistan to be cautious of their act and said, "I would caution Pakistan government to consider the consequences for our bilateral relationship if they proceed on this matter".

Diplomats also said that India woud have to deliberate upon what kind of response would be befitting if Pakistan executed Mr. Jadhav.

Pakistan maintains that Kulbhushan Jadhav is an Indian spy working for the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and he has been handed the death sentence since he was involved in espionage activities against Pakistan. India says he was kidnapped in Iran, where he ran a small business.

Former BJP leader Sudhir Kulkarni, who also attended the event, said that Pakistan should immediately strike down the death sentence to Jadhav, otherwise there could be unpredictable consequences. The global norm is consular access, India and Pakistan have a bilateral agreement on consular access.

"We don't know where Kulbhushan Jadhav has been kept".

It was the first direct interaction between the army chief and the prime minister.

"The UN and countries like the United States should intervene in this case which is a blatant example of inhumanity".

Michigan State player charged with criminal sexual conduct
He temporarily delayed signing a letter of intent with Michigan State while sorting through those legal issues. That charge was later removed from his record after completing a diversionary program earlier this year.

"What Pakistan is doing is not only an assault on India, it is an assault on worldwide laws, global conventions that affect everybody". Although this is provided for by global law and is deemed a norm in worldwide relations, the Government of Pakistan did not permit it.

March, 2017: Aziz retracts his previous statement on insufficient evidence on Jadhav.

This was stated by High Commissioner to India Abdul Basit in an interview with a Indian TV Channel "India Today" on Wednesday night.

The Pak defence minister rejected Indian claims that Jadhav's execution would be "pre-meditated murder", saying due process of law was followed in the trial.

Earlier in the Lok Sabha, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said the Government will do everything possible to get justice for Jadhav.

Sushma termed the charges against Jadhav "concocted" and his trial "farcical", leading to an "indefensible verdict".
