Fox stock holds steady following O'Reilly firing

A woman walks by a sign showing Fox News Channel TV anchor Bill O'Reilly outside the News Corporation headquarters in New York City in New York

That is approximately a 22% increase in total viewers and approximately a 25% boost in the demo compared to Tuesday's episode (2.7 million, 499,000).

His nightly program, "The O'Reilly Factor, " generated high ratings and pulled in hundreds of millions in advertising revenues.

Bill O'Reilly's forced exit from Fox News is netting him a payout of up to $25 million, two sources with knowledge confirmed to NBC News.

Protestors rallied to get Bill O'Reilly fired and advertisers jumped ship after a New York Times reported that Fox News paid $13 million in settlements to women accusing O'Reilly of harassment.

The network's parent company, entertainment giant 21st Century Fox, insisted that Fox News will weather the current storm just fine, noting in a statement the "strength of its talent bench" and expressing "full confidence that the network will continue to be a powerhouse in cable news".

Along with other Fox News primetime lineup changes, "Tucker Carlson Tonight" will move to O'Reilly's time slot.

British PM May says June election result 'not certain' despite front-runner status
Green Party co-leader Caroline Lucas said Mr Corbyn was letting down Britain by refusing to back a second referendum. May's Conservatives now hold 330 House of Commons seats and Labour 229.

In the email, O'Reilly himself had apparently also run out of patience with Fox News Channel, the network he had called home for 20 years: "You all should know that I will not put up with much more from FNC", he wrote.

Before Whoopi Goldberg introduced Burgess and her lawyer Lisa Bloom to the show, she remarked how "years before Fox broke with Bill, we broke with Bill", referring to O'Reilly's 2010 appearance on The View when she and co-host Joy Behar stormed off the stage. She said she felt "triumphant" upon hearing that O'Reilly would not return to the airwaves.

While O'Reilly likely would have preferred to keep his job on the popular news network, he won't be walking away empty-handed.

Allegations against the veteran political commentator date back to 2002, when he settled a lawsuit with a junior producer at FOX News.

As to why she came out now, it's because she got exhausted of hearing the stories from women and reliving the trauma. "But that is the unfortunate reality many of us in the public eye must live with today", O'Reilly complained on Wednesday. It was the latest chapter in a story that began with the ouster of Fox News CEO Roger Ailes last summer over similar allegations of rampant sexual harassment problems at Fox News.

"I was exhausted of reliving the trauma every time I saw a woman speak out", Burgess said of why she came forward recently.
