Tennessee girl safe, teacher arrested at California commune after month-long disappearance

The nationwide search for 15-year-old Thomas and ex-teacher Cummins came to an end when Siskiyou County, California sheriff's deputies found the two at a secluded cabin near the OR state border early this morning.

Their disappearance came after Cummins had been suspended and eventually fired from his job at the Culleoka Unit School; he had been investigated for months after they were allegedly seen kissing, though both denied that incident.

As of 3 p.m. Thursday, Cummins remained in the custody of the Siskiyou County jail where he's being held without bond, awaiting extradition to Tennessee.

Michael "Monk" O'Hare, who said he was out of town that evening, owns property in the small, forested California hamlet of Cecilville, including the 12 by 12-foot wood cabin where he said the pair was found.

"What happened in California. proves it only takes one person to lead to a successful end". We are extremely thankful the hard work of all partners in this search has paid off. "It's a case of kidnapping", TBI Director Mark Gwyn said.

Cummins faces state charges of aggravated kidnapping and sexual contact with a minor as well as a federal charge of taking a minor across state lines to have sex.

Cummins reportedly told Barry their home caught fire, and he and Thomas were in need of money.

But instead of going to the beach, police say he picked up the student in Columbia, Tennessee, in his wife's white Nissan Rogue on the morning of March 13, setting in motion a six-week police manhunt.

Our warm weather takes a back seat this weekend — FIRST ALERT FORECAST
Wednesday we warm even more to the mid/ upper 80s with sunny skies and winds from the south at 10-20 miles per hour . Showers are likely throughout the mid-valley on Thursday , and forecasters say there's a chance of thunderstorms.

The report recommended that the girl be taken out of Cummins' class and that he be reprimanded to uphold his professional responsibility. The school system said the community can now begin healing.

April 1, 2017: The TBI releases surveillance video of Thomas and Cummins inside an Oklahoma City Walmart from March 15 - two days after the pair vanished.

Cummins told O'Hare's friend that he was 44 years old, the young woman with him was 22 and they were recently married. A day after they disappeared, he was sacked from his teaching job at Culleoka Unit School, where Elizabeth had been a student in his forensics class.

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations, Thomas was found safe in Northern California.

Cummins was sacked about a month after being suspended - a day after the TBI issued an Amber Alert about the teen.

Jill Cummins, who has publicly pleaded with her husband, Tad Cummins, to bring the Columbia, Tenn. girl home, filed the documents in Maury County Chancery Court Friday citing irreconcilable differences and inappropriate marital conduct. The statement said the images captured showed Cummins had altered his hair to appear darker and the girl's hair may have changed to red.

"Subsequent investigation revealed that Cummins had no scheduled interview", the complaint said. If the press conference is not live streamed from the TBI's Facebook page, it will be streamed from their affiliates' sites.
