It's an orca! Last killer whale is born at a SeaWorld park

Must-see: SeaWorld's last baby killer whale born in Texas

Last killer whale born at.

The last killer whale has been born in captivity at SeaWorld in Texas, just over a year after the theme park announced it would stop breeding the species.

The baby orca has not received a name because SeaWorld veterinarians can not yet determine if the killer whale is a male or a female.

After 18 months of waiting, we are excited to welcome a new member to our family of #killerwhales!

The Orlando-based company said the orca - the last in a generation of whales bred in confinement - was born on Wednesday afternoon. SeaWorld has been accused of separating mothers and calves, as well as other questionable practice relating to the breeding of its animals.

SeaWorld's chief zoological officer, Chris Dold, described the birth as one of those "extraordinary moments".

Borowiecki crashed into the boards and left Saturday's game in the first period. "We'll see (Monday)", Boucher said. Phaneuf's winning goal at 1:59 of OT is a great example of what MacArthur is talking about to have success on Rask.

Performances of killer whales at SeaWorld will end by 2019.

The gender of the calf will be confirmed at a later date, once Takara appears comfortable with allowing her trainers to meet her latest arrival.

The birth of the calf marks SeaWorld's last opportunity to monitor and study a baby orca up-close. "It's a tempered celebration only because we're focused on the health of these guys". The park had come under fire for its treatment of killer whales since the 2013 CNN documentary "Blackfish".

But public opinion turned against keeping orcas, dolphins and other animals in captivity for entertainment previous year thanks in large part to the 2013 release of "Blackfish", a documentary critical of SeaWorld's orca care. In the near future, SeaWorld San Antonio plans to let visitors observe Takara, who's 25, as well as her calf.

Despite SeaWorld's efforts to court the changing tide of public opinion, controversy continues to dog the park. It was 25-year-old Takara's fifth birth.

However, the company has said it would not be able to release the creatures into the while because most were born and raised in captivity and would "likely die" if set free.
