Fuel outlets to remain shut on Sundays from May 14

Petroleum ministry is not supporting the decision of a motor fuel dealers body to keep petrol pumps shut on Sundays beginning May 14. "Even if our demand of implementation of the Apoorva Chandra Committee report is met, we may still go ahead with the decision to shut down petrol pumps on Sunday, after the Prime Minister's appeal", Shinde said.

All India Petroleum Dealers Association President Ajay Bansal had told PTI that the association, which has almost 46,000 petrol pump owners as members, are not participating in the closure.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi had asked people to contribute to fuel reduction in his first Mann Ki Baat [on All India Radio] and that has inspired us", the Association President said.

"In line with the Prime Minister's appeal, the petroleum dealers in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry have made a decision to help in the reduction of petroleum consumption by declaring all Sundays as holidays from May 14", Murali said.

"On an average the daily sales of fuel is for around Rs 153 crore". Murali said there were around 4,850 outlets selling petrol and diesel in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry alone.

Who's behind rallies seeking tax returns
Spicer did not offer the IRS rule as a reason for Trump's refusal to release his 2016 taxes on Monday. Hillary Clinton and her campaign repeatedly criticized President Trump and he won despite all this.

He added that petrol pumps in the seven states and Puducherry will work from May 15 only on single shift - 9 a.m.to 6 p.m. The move is being taken to create pressure on the oil marketing companies to hike dealers margin.

Announcing this on Tuesday, Tamil Nadu Petroleum Dealers Association (TNPDA) president K.P.Murali said the move would help in reducing fuel consumption across the country.

"We request all the dealers in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry to rise up for creating a clean and prosperous "New India" by declaring Sundays as a holiday from May 14", he said. "All these days we have been functioning paying workers double wages", he said.

In order to tackle emergency situations, one staff member will be available at every fuel pump.

He claimed that a decision on closing the pumps would be taken only then.
