United Will No Longer Remove Passengers To Give Seats To Crew Members

When a United Airlines flight attendant approached them to ask if they were in their ticketed seats, they explained that they weren't and asked for an upgrade but were turned down.

United Airlines is by any definition getting exactly what it deserves - a long-running public relations and financial nightmare.

United Airlines says it will ensure crew members traveling on its planes will be booked at least one prior to departure, before passengers have boarded. "This is one of our initial steps in a review of our policies in order to deliver the best customer experience".

The policy change is just one of several that have followed in the wake of this controversy.

United Continental on Monday reported first-quarter earnings that topped forecasts, amid the backlash that followed a passenger's removal last week Sunday.

The incident has prompted a USA congressman to propose legislation to prohibit airlines from forcibly removing passengers from flights to make room for other customers after they have already boarded the plane. The change will allow employees to bump passengers, if necessary, in the gate area to avoid what happened on Dr Dao's flight: forcing passengers to leave their seats after they already boarded the airplane, said Maggie Schmerin, a United spokeswoman.

Iran nuclear deal a failure, says US
The deal represents the same "failed approach of the past" that brought us to the threat of North Korea, he noted. The Trump administration, however, has "no intention of passing the buck to a future administration".

This policy came under fire nearly a week ago after a passenger was taken from his seat and dragged off a flight that was getting ready to leave Chicago O'Hare International Airport and travel to Louisville, Kentucky.

Among people who had heard of the incident, 79 percent chose an American flight instead of United.

The airline, whose advertising slogan is "fly the friendly skies", was also ridiculed on social media as the incident became a symbol of growing discontent with the way some air passengers are treated. A day before releasing his statement, Munoz emailed all United employees and said he stood behind the security guards' actions.

Days later Mr Munoz, who was facing calls to resign from online petitions that had received thousands of signatures, said he felt "shame and embarrassment" and vowed that it would never happen again. Lawyers representing the passenger who was dragged off the plane, Dr. David Dao, have said he suffered a concussion and plans to file a lawsuit against the company.

The poll from Morning Consult - which was conducted after a passenger was violently dragged off a United flight last week - could spell trouble for the embattled airline.
