Babri case SC restores conspiracy charges against Advani and other BJP leaders

The apex court today allowed the CBIs plea in the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition case and restored criminal conspiracy charges against L K Advani, M M Joshi and Uma Bharti.

"Koi sazish nahi thi, sab khullam khulla tha (There was no conspiracy, everything was out there in open)", Bharati said at a press conference at her residence after the SC directive.

Bharti said she was "proud, unapologetic and unrepentant" for being associated with the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and was prepared to get "hanged or be jailed" on the issue of contruction of a Ram temple at the disputed site in Ayodhya. "Likewise, Union Minister Uma Bharti should step down without any more delay", said the former Kerala Education Minister, now a two-time Lok Sabha member.

The apex court said that conspiracy charges on Advani, Joshi and other BJP leaders can not be dropped on "technical grounds" and asked to complete the hearing within two years.

The firebrand leader said she will leave for Ayodhya tonight to seek Lord Ram's blessings for the construction of a temple. I had given up the post of Chief Minister for the sake of the tri-color. "When 10,000 Sikhs were killed (in 1984), Sonia was in the house of Rajiv (Gandhi) then does it mean that she was part of the conspiracy?"

Slamming the Opposition, the Union Minister also asserted the Congress had no right to demand her resignation.

Asked about her role, Bharti said, "I took part in Ram temple campaign with pride and confidence.I will do whatever it takes to see the Ram temple is constructed.Ram temple will be built".

"Yes, I was there (Ayodhya) on December 6 but I would not like to comment beyond it, rest of it is a matter for the lawyers to talk in the court", she said.

Bharti said that at the same time she was not one to stick to any post, recalling she had quit chief minister of Madhya Pradesh over a decade ago, following a court order that convicted her in a case that involved the national flag.

"Mosque demolition was not the fallout of an emotional outburst of karsevaks", Mr Basheer said. "The temple would definitely be built", she added.
